COMPREHENSIVE RESOURCE CENTRE

Fondo Social Europeo

On the 17th of December 2007 the Basque Country Operational Programme, and as a result, the COMPREHENSIVE RESOURCE CENTRE project presented by EHLABE, was approved for the 2007-2013 period. Co-financed by the European Social Fund, the overall aim of this project is to help in the social and working integration of people with disabilities, through innovations in the processes involved in their training and their personal and professional development.

The GUREAK GROUP is taking part in this project through Gureak Araba (see details in its section) and Talleres Protegidos Gureak S.A., and has defined the specific measures that are to be implemented in order to achieve the defined aim. These are as follows:

  1. Setting up a Market Observatory, in order to identify new activity niches for people with disabilities, and a socio-technological observation system that makes it possible to be fully up-to-date as far as new practices, tools, models, technologies are concerned... aimed at placing people with disabilities in jobs
  2. Creation of a Research, Development and Innovation section in two areas:
    1. Socio-professional R+D+I: this is a question of making improvements and innovations in the models, methodologies, advanced tools for personal development and the improvement of the quality of employment and jobs.
    2. Technological R+D+I: research and study of the feasibility of new technologies that aim to adapt training and productive processes, in order to improve the training, qualifications and autonomy of people with disabilities.
  3. Development of Advanced Training Programmes to adapt jobs to the skill profile required, both in sheltered employment and in mainstream employment. This is the practical application of the developments in R+D+I to the special needs detected.

These programmes will include measures aimed both at people (skill plans which will include training programmes with adapted contents and tools based on new ICTs), and also at the working environment itself (adaptation of jobs, reorganisation of productive processes, availability of technical aids, and all this will be based on the development of new technologies). In this way we aim to place people with disabilities in jobs that they have not had access to before.

To put these measures into practice Gureak has formed two outstanding units:

  • 1.Ordinary Job placement Unit
  • 2.Socio-Technological Development Centre: gitek

Looking at things from the perspective of people’s abilities (not their disabilities), individualisation, innovation and technology are key aspects that define the philosophy behind this project which clearly aims to help to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities on a permanent basis.
